Prediction: conformity more-so than the disastrous housing crisis will be the thing that dooms Silicon Valley.
The slopes are pointed in a way that the benefits of serendipity and closeness will soon be less than the cost of remoteness.
Given increasingly better remote collaboration tools and the hotness of decentralization and crypto, we’re much closer to this junction than ever before.
But I’m still optimistic about Silicon Valley; I still live here after all. There’s a growing contingent of people recognizing: it’ll be really hard to innovate and make new things if we all think the same.
Perhaps soon there’ll be job ads looking specifically for independent thinkers. The mob will make fun of them but it’ll be the breath of fresh air we most need.Posted on 2018-01-03
